My oh my I just honestly do not get how fast the weeks seem to be flying! SO CRAZY!
This week I have just a few fun stories to talk about regarding these three topics: Pigs, Pique, and the Power of Prayer! Also the Primavera has kicked in and the weather is hot and ready for Spring time!
Our story begins on Wednesday when Hna Stubbs and I were at the Arce Vargas house to teach Oscar (a recent convert) and Luis (father of Oscar who is not a member). We always teach around the morning time because Luis´s work schedule is CRAZY and he only has just a few hours to cook, clean, buy groceres, etc before he sleeps so he can go to work selling frutilla (strawberry) from 6pm-8am give or take. Anywho, We were talking to Oscar when Luis told us that he had to help these two men who came to his house. We were checking in with Oscar about how his prayers and scripture study were going, I hear the most heart wrenching sound of my life. I LITERALLY THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS DYING AND I DIDN´T KNOW WHAT TO DO. My face looked like a million bucks, te digo jajaja. Turns out that this family has had pigs for 3 years (I had no idea) and they were selling them to the two men that came over. They had these pigs on rope leashes (which were like suffocating THESE POOR PIGS). Like OBVIOUSLY they didn´t want to leave their home and then the men just chucked the pigs in this truck bed that was connected to a motorcycle??? and like the noises and cries I heard honestly made me kinda nervous if i´m gonna be honest. i don´t think I can ever forget the noises I heard. My heart was so nervous LOL. Let´s just say it is def a memory that went down in the books.
PIQUE! Okay so I´ve never had pique in my life, nor have I had a companion who has had pique UNTIL HERMANA STUBBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH sweet hermana Stubbs has just had so many stories with just almost 2 transfers in paraguay down under her belt! Haha! For those of you who do not know what pique is it is a parasite worm thingy that is in the sand and gets in your feet and lays eggs and just hurts and stuff. Honestly... I´m not the most knowledgeable one about it, so you´ll just have to google it for me! HAHAHAHA But she had it for about like 2 weeks without thinking it was really anything and on Saturday we finally took the question to Hermana Cardoso of what was going on with my comps pinky toe. It was indeed Pique, but not just 1. BUT 3 and probably like around a hundred of EGGS just chillin in her toe. Hna Cardoso is a champ and legit busted out laughing when she was digging all in Hermana Stubb´s toe. It was an experience that honestly changed the both of us. BUT the good thing is that Hna Stubbs is all clear of the pique and we´ve got some good stories and pics to go along with it.
This week Hna Stubbs and I got down to business and realized that we should try to focus on other areas for prostelyting instead of where we´ve been working at in the past due to seeing how there haven´t really been too many fruits to come from it. Before getting down to it, we made sure to start with a prayer to ask Heavenly Fathe for His guidance to where we should go. We´ve been looking through the area book when we are at home and have been finding some cool potential investigators to go find! We´ve also been talking with a lot of ward members and our ward leaders about our idea. They are super supportive and have even offered to help us read the maps that missionaries in the past have made and to go explore the area with us! This has been a blessing! We are going to start taking things into action this week with our ward mission leader in the Toledo area and two sisters that live in the Campo Verde area so we can see more places where we can work and go off of references that they have! I am truly so so soooooooo excited for this all to take action and just know that Heavenly Father truly always hears our prayers and blesses us when we continue to do all that we can do! I love this ward so much and the love that they have for us and for the Lord! It has been such a blessing for us! In these past weeks, Hermana Stubbs and I may not have been able to work like we had before due to inhibiting health problems (thus our logros have not been maybe our best), however I know that the Lord has been blessing us. We had seen 3 miracles happen this week on Sunday and Saturday. On Sunday one of the best investigators that I have ever had during my mission named Giselle went to church for the 4th time. She has leukemia and her boyfriend who is a member has been having a lot of heart problems and just the mix of these two had made it very difficult to maintain contact with her as of 2 weeks. Hermana Stubbs and I were feeling really down about it because she was just honestly incredible, but then we were humbled to see her at church! One of my old investigators as of about 3 months ago named Iris was also just a fantastic investigator who was going to be baptized but the day of had problems with her mom and kind of went MIA after that. We were at the church building on Saturday to help out with the primary program and as we were leaving we saw Iris with her friend Ruth (a member) and Iris asked us if we could visit her this week. The last one we saw deals with an eternal investigator named Hno Cardoso. He is the husband and father of members and has always been very cold to receiving the missionaries even though he attends church every Sunday. My companion had pique in her toe and Hermana Cardoso was taking it out and while doing so, Hermano Cardoso was talking with us and becoming more open to having a conversation with us. It was so amazing to me. He even took home an investigator that we have named Sabino who has a disability with his leg. He asked about him and said that when he ends up getting baptized he´d love to go to the service. I truly know that Heavenly Father hears and answers our prayers, but the most important thing we need to do is be mindful of these blessings. It has been so powerful to me just to see how much Heavenly Father is always in our daily lives. WHAT A BLESSING!
Life is good here in Paraguay!
