What a week this has been! I can´t believe that I have been out in the field for 2 months already! Time surely flies when you´re working hard :P
This week we had a noche de hogar with the Rodriguez family and it was so great! They are from Ururguay and are just oh so sweet! They were completely thrilled to have us over and told us that it had been 6 years since the missionaries visited their home! That same day we received a phone call from a less active member who wanted to come back to church and wanted us to help teach him and his son the lessons again! Such a cool experience that he reached out to us! To me it was a testimony that Heavenly Father is always looking out for His children and that we need to be ready to serve those around us!
On Tuesday we went down to Amistad (a really humble area where a lot of Guarani is spoken) to teach our investigators Yuana and Crescencia. Aparently in our last lesson with them Crescencia´s mom had been speaking poorly of us in Guarani and claimined that we were Jehovah Witnesses. We thanked her for being honest with us and explained that we are not Jehovah Witnesses, but rather missionaries of the Chruch of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints and explained that our purpose as missionaries is to bring others closer to Christ! They became more excited to hear about our lesson especially with the clarification. It truly is a miracle each time we teach them because we don´t know much Guarani at all and they don´t know much Spanish, but through the power of the Holy Ghost we´re able to communicate and understand one another! Such a neat experince!
One day we were leaving our lunch appointment and decided to go a different route instead of our usual one and ended up having the opportunity to talk with a family that had been sitting outside! They were super interested in who we were and wanted to hear more! It´s amazing what happens when you just open your mouth and say hello!
This week I was reminded again of just how important listening is! It´s something that everyone including myself can work on. When we listen to others we are able to understand them more, empathize, and show that we care. We also need to make sure that we are always listening to the Holy Ghost to give us guidance and answers to prayers. Many times we are just so focused on the here and now and forget to take time to listen. So I challenge you all this week to try and listen a little more and I promise you will see a change in yourself and in others!
The weather this week took a 360 from being around low 50s when we wake up to reaching high 70s and low 80s! I have already started to tan and it is winter in Paraguay!
I am grateful to learn more and more about the Savior´s love for all of His children everyday and encourage you all to try and look for it too!
A scripture that really stuch with me this week was John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcame the world.
Much love and I hope you all remember how much your Father in Heaven loves you!
